Intertidal Walk to the Karame Beacon
Accessible only on the lowest tides of the year, this is a bucket list walk for those interested in the vast expanse of rocky intertidal zone off the coast of Jersey. Discover some of the wonderful creatures that can survive the harsh and extreme environments created by one of the largest tidal ranges in the world. Duration: 4-5hrs. Distance: 5-6 km. This walk is not suitable for children, A good level of fitness and an ability to keep up a good walking pace over several hours is required. Walk out past Seymour Tower to the Karame Beacon. Little more than a shipping beacon, this remote structure topped with a ‘K’ warns ships of the dangerous reef called the Violet Bank, this is a wild place. Enjoy the quietude and tune into the sounds of the natural world and be prepared to walk through water to get the most out of the experience.

Due to the nature of the seabed, this walk will pass over uneven, and sometimes unstable sand and gravel. Seaweed and rocks may be slippery, and participants will need to be able to walk through tidal streams and pools, and keep up a sustained walking pace to and back from this remote spot, to remain ahead of the tide.
