Meet Cole McLean, founder of Sauna Society.
I’m Cole, founder of Sauna Society. I spend most of my time running my two ventures – Sauna Society & Outdoor Entertainment. Being a solo entrepreneur means that you have to cover all bases of your business which can vary from cleaning equipment, admin or shooting content for our social pages to showcase our offerings to our customers. I love building businesses from the ground up, starting out with a concept and bringing it to life brings me a lot of satisfaction and fulfilment.
What inspired you to set up the Sauna Society?
I saw the emergence and cult-like following that many beach/lakeside saunas were experiencing in the U.K and believed that Jersey was the perfect place to launch this type of offering. I play football and hockey on the weekends and go to the gym regularly throughout the week and have used a Sauna almost daily over the past few years to aid my recovery – and also just for how good it makes me feel. Hot/cold therapy can have such a beneficial impact on your physical and mental health, and it almost feels like my purpose to try and get as many people involved so they can feel the benefits too.
When friends and family are visiting I make sure they…
get on board a tour with Jersey Seafaris. One of the best ways to show visitors the beauty of our island is by sea. It gives them a completely different viewpoint and can cover most of the bays with ease, finishing off with some delicious woodfired pizzas at Portelet Bay Café.
Other than a beachside sauna session (naturally!) what are your favourite ways to unwind in Jersey?
I like to play golf whenever I have some free time and in the summer months a Splash Sunday when the weather is great with a few friends, watching the sunset with some live music can’t be topped.
What's your favourite place to tuck into some local Jersey produce?
Not so much a place, but during the summer I love picking up a Fruit De Mer from the Fresh Fish Company with an amazing range of fresh, local seafood to enjoy with friends or family at home.
What can visitors expect when they book a Sauna Society Session?
To feel amazing and alive. We often get caught up in our super busy schedules to take that much-needed time out. I like to think our Sauna is a safe haven where you can heat up, relax and rejuvenate, almost escaping from the outside world. It’s all about feeling good, spending time either alone, with friends or family whilst having unparalleled views of the ocean through our large glass window – what’s not to love?
The Sauna Society is currently located at St. Catherine’s, on Jersey’s east coast, and is available to book as a whole, or for communal sessions. Take a invigorating dip off St. Catherine’s slip and then enjoy some well deserved sauna time looking out to sea.
